The short version
Noats runs on your Mac. Your recordings, transcripts and notes are written to your own disk and are never sent to us. The app contains no analytics and no telemetry.
Three things do leave your Mac, and you control all three: a check for updates, a one-time model download, and — only if you connect one — whatever you send to a cloud AI provider.
On this website we hold one thing: the email address you give us to get the download.
Who we are
Noats, Inc. makes the Noats app and runs noats.ai. For anything in this policy, write to hello@noats.ai.
The app
What stays on your Mac
Everything Noats records or writes is stored locally: a SQLite database and audio files in your own Application Support folder. That includes your audio, transcripts, speaker labels, notes, folders and chat history. We have no server that receives any of it, and no account to sign in to. When you delete a note, it is removed from disk rather than flagged as deleted.
There is no analytics and no telemetry inside the app. We do not know how often you use Noats, what you record, how many notes you have, or whether you opened it today.
What leaves your Mac, and when
- Update checks. The app asks
updates.noats.aiwhether a newer version exists. That request carries your IP address and the version you are on, as any web request does. It sends nothing about your notes. You can switch this off in Settings → About. - Model downloads. On first run the app downloads the speech and speaker-separation models from Hugging Face. This happens once. After that, transcription and speaker separation run offline.
- Granola import, only if you start one.If you import your Granola meetings, the app talks to Granola’s API using your own Granola credentials, and the meetings come back to your Mac. We are not party to that exchange.
- A cloud AI provider, only if you connect one. Noats writes up your notes with a model running on your Mac by default. You can instead connect Anthropic, OpenAI or OpenRouter with your own API key, point Noats at any OpenAI-compatible endpoint including your own server, or use your ChatGPT plan. If you do, the note and transcript content needed for that request is sent to whoever you chose, and their privacy policy governs it from there. Nothing routes through us.
API keys you enter are encrypted with macOS’s own secure storage, backed by your Keychain. If you use your ChatGPT plan, you sign in to OpenAI in your terminal through their Codex CLI, so that login never passes through Noats at all.
This website
Your email address
To download Noats you give us an email address. We store it as a private file on our hosting provider’s storage, together with the time and which page you came from. We use it to give you the download and to send release notes while the beta runs. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it for anyone else’s marketing. If we start sending email through a third-party delivery provider, your address will be held there too, for that purpose only.
Analytics
This website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. It sets cookies and Google processes your IP address as part of that. This applies to the website only — it has nothing to do with the app, which carries no analytics of any kind.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel, and the app download is served from Cloudflare. Both receive standard web-request information, including your IP address, in the course of serving you the page or the file.
How long we keep things
Your email address is kept while the beta runs and while you want to hear from us. Ask us to delete it and we will, and it will be gone from our storage rather than marked inactive. Anything the app holds is on your own Mac, for exactly as long as you keep it.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- ask what we hold about you, and get a copy;
- ask us to correct it;
- ask us to delete it;
- object to us using it, or withdraw consent for analytics;
- complain to your data protection regulator.
One email to hello@noats.ai is enough for any of these. In practice the only thing we can hold about you is your email address, so most requests are quick.
Children
Noats is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant and we have your email address, we will tell you.
Questions about any of this? hello@noats.ai. Back to Noats.
